Our Philosophy

We are Will & Sophie, the husband and wife team behind Burton Grange Equestrian. With over 30 years experience in the equine industry, having started riding at the age of 6 and owning numerous horses continuously since the age of 11 you can rest assured your equine is taken care of to the highest standards & to the best of our ability. A professional, knowledgeable, 5* service is guaranteed.

Having completed an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour & Welfare at The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and then going on to spend 10 years as an Animal Health Officer with APHA, DEFRA, it is safe to say ensuring the welfare and well being of our horses is paramount to us. Our arable farm runs alongside our livery, enabling us to ensure the highest of standards of forage, bedding and grassland.

We take great pride in being able to offer several livery packages purposefully designed to provide an environment that meets all of the horses' natural needs, whilst also accommodating the modern day rider. Our small yard of just 16 stables ensures a quiet, peaceful environment which compliments our natural approach to our horse care. It also ensures we can provide individual care & attention to each of our equines, getting to know them & their characters very well. Being a small yard also enables our owners to take full advantage of our great facilities with ease & convenience.

All of our livery packages are tailored around the 3 key components essential to good equine husbandry. These are freedom, friends & forage. We pride ourselves in offering 24/7 turnout throughout the summer months and guaranteed daily turnout throughout winter, maximising the time your equine spends out in the field, as nature had intended. Secondly, we run same-sex small group herd turnout ensuring your equine can fulfil their need for social interaction eg grooming & play. Lastly, we provide excellent quality forage, be it through hay and haylage during winter or our well maintained grazing throughout the summer, thus allowing your horse to engage in & satisfy their deep motivation to graze.

Having owned many breeds of horses including New Forest, TB x, Cleveland Bay, Connemara, KWPN and ISH, & competed in a variety of disciplines including showing, show jumping, hunter trials and team chasing, experience has proven time & time again that horses whether in work or at rest, thrive when kept in an environment such as this. Our simple approach to equine care ensures the horses natural, highly motivated behaviours are met and this more often than not results in relaxed, content, happy horses.

Please note, we do not suit those equines with medical conditions requiring restricted grazing. Likewise individual / paired turnout or stabling during summer months cannot be accommodated.
